BTR or Pat G Camshaft
New here to the 5th gen forum and searching around it for the first time. I am looking for some insight to help me decide between two cams that will work best for my H/C Combo. In particular, the BTR Stage 2 or the Pat G Stage 2. Have heard nothing but great things about both of them for a while.
Car is a 2013 1LE that will also be getting ARH 1 7/8" w/ high flow cats; Rotofab CAI; and looking at doing slight head work/rebuild by Advanced Inductions as I know LS3 Heads are already big. Looking to reach around that mid to high 490-500 whp mark if possible Note: Car is only driven on weekends. BTR Stage 2 Specs: 225/238 .620/.605 113+3 Pat G Stage 2 Specs: 227/236 .630/.615 113+4 Last edited by 1LE_Justin; 12-21-2023 at 05:05 PM. |

BTR or Pat G Cam

Have heard nothing but great things about both of them for a while. Both cams look very good, and I know Lingenfelter uses similar specs to Pat's with theirs being 227/235.

Looking to reach around that high 490's-500 whp mark if possible with some fun torque. Note: Car is only driven on weekends. I have no info about those two cams but i run the Texas speed stage 2 with great results.
Specs are 227-235 .641 lift and .649 exhaust lift Duration is about the same as the ones you’re looking at just a bit more lift.

Also you might want to inquire in this section dedicated to "bolt ons" , instead of the ZL1 section. A lot of the guys don't even look in here because it is for ZL1 topics.

Who are you going to have tune it ? I’m running a pat g max effort cam and he’s my tuner and I love it !! His service are top notch as well ..
Can’t go wrong with pat - he’s been around a long time in the ls world so he definitely knows what he’s doing . Both my vehicles that are cammed are pat g tuned

+1 - posting the same question in three different sub-forums is just going to spread the information out, and frustrate people willing to give you information.
I recommend mods close this thread, and redirect all future posts here: https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=621903

Both cams are very similar. They have very modest overlap, 5.5* each, and valve events that should product a power peak around 6000rpm. The most closely resemble our GPI SS1 camshaft. They will all drive very nicely, but none will take you to that 500whp number you're after - even with a ported intake and heads. That will require more duration and overlap, which will come with a bit of a driveability setback. Our GPI SS4 NFC cam is a proven 500whp option with ported heads and intake. You have to ask yourself how you intend to use the car, and what you really want from it in terms of performance vs. driveability. In terms of cam selection, as you lean into performance, driveability suffers - and so there is a balance to be struck there, unique to each use-case.

As far as either cam goes, my intended use is more for a street/strip application for the weekends. Not really chasing after highest rpm peak hp possible. I know the 500whp mark is on the higher end for both of these milder cams, yes I know even with some head work. Just trying to get somewhat close if possible. |

If you're just looking for a fun setup that sounds good and makes a good gain over stock than either of the cams you mentioned will accomplish that. Brian and Pat both do great stuff, no doubt. There is a lot to be said for staying mild with cam timing when you're just looking for some fun.

I have the GPI SS3 hardened core and all the supporting items. Even if it's only a weekend car, you'll end up not liking drivability with a fairly big cam. I worked with Ryan at GPI to remotely tune the vehicle with data logs. There was a lot of refining the tune. Ryan responded in a timely manner and "listened" to my concerns. Great person to work with the tune. But the bigger cam will give you bucking issues in the parking lot. Other than that, the cam is great upto the 7200 rpm cutoff. I would like to drive down and get a street tune to see if there would be any difference. 500whp is tough to get.
GPI-SS3 8620 Core 233/253 112 lsa +4 .646/.637 19 degrees overlap A lot of past posts on cams. Be sure to read them. Some cams/cores failed and also ate the lifters. Goodluck with the cam you chose.
