Universal Greenlights Fast and the Furious 5, Titled...

Quote:
Universal Pictures has given the greenlight to a fifth film in the Fast and the Furious franchise. And in an apparent attempt to one-up the ridiculousness of the previous titles, 2 Fast 2 Furious and Fast & Furious, they have come up with the brilliant (yes, sarcasm) title “Fast Five.” The studio has inked deals with all the key players, including stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, director Justin Lin, screenwriter Chris Morgan (Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Wanted), and producer Neal Moritz to return to the franchise. According to Variety, the fifth film will follow Dom (Diesel) and Brian (Walker) as “fugitives being pursued by legendary lawmen.”‘

Do we really need another Fast and the Furious movie? And does anyone care? Clearly I’m not the film’s targeted audiece, because one clearly exists, and it’s big. Diesel and Walker’s return to the series, Fast & Furious, became Universal’s highest grossing film of last year, with a worldwide box office take of $343 million. The company’s second highest grossing film of the year, Couples Retreat, was considered a failure on most fronts, with a $70 million budget plus P&A, and only $109 million at the domestic box office.

I actually liked the first one. The latest one was ok (but had a few too many seens that were 'yeah right' moments). A fifth one may be a film too far...

They 'jumped the shark' with the second one.

Apparently there are no creative minds left at Universal...just empty suits trying to squeeze blood out of a turnip.

I like these movies. I guess I'm a sucker for films about cars. They don't make too many of them these days.

At least it's not a remake.

Exactly. You put up with cheesy lines and bad acting to watch cars go vroom vroom, burn rubber, drift corners, and do stuff you always wanted to try in your own car

That being said, I was so blinded by anticipation when Fast and Furious came out in theaters that I did not realize how bad the acting was until I got in on Bluray... its bad.

Maybe they'll put some real modern muscle in Fast Five and feature a 2010 Camaro! It'd definitely bump up the box office take, just like it did with Tranformers.

Steven Seagal and Chuck Norris as the Lawmen. Unfortunately everyone would know the ending because Chuck can never lose....

did anyone see redline, or legend of speed. /facepalm.

I'll welcome another F&F movie anytime. They are the top movie of their genre (terrible-enough-to-not-win-awards but entertaining).

Can't wait to see what they do next as you're supposed to watch it for entertainment, if you go expecting a serious movie, then you'll be disappointed.

Story line will probably be pretty outrageous, but I do appreciate some of the cars that they have in these movies. I'd probably watch it

Hell, I haven't gotten over Smokey and the Bandit getting snubbed for best picture!
