Thoughts on power-mod theories/concepts...

As I'm learning about the various ways to increase HP/TQ, seems that there are 2 somewhat distinct camps regarding achieving this.

1) forced induction (supercharged or turbo), roughly 8K in cost. 100+ HP

2) CAI/headers/cam/gears/etc. upgrades, nearly same cost/power.

Seems a combo of both would make for the ultimate beast. I realize there is A LOT more to it.

Just looking for knowledgeable opinions about the pros and cons (1 versus 2) of going either route...what to consider...other member's experiences.

I realize what each driver wants ultimately dictates what to get. I will never take my car to a track or strip, I just want to build a killer street machine that sounds mean, drives great, and tears up the road on occasion.

Seems like just simply slapping an SC on an engine and drive-train not built for it could be asking for problems. Do guys usually just get a SC and leave it at that cost permitting? Or is further fortification a wise idea?

I kind of like the idea of building up every area of the car versus having a blower stress the entire machine just to coax more power.

If you want to be pretty fast, get an intake, headers, and spray the house down. Nitrous is your friend!

Just had a cam/headers package with Livernois Motorsports done. I was in the same boat as you. In the end, since I was not going to be racing mine either, having the sound a big cam brings was more important then getting the extra power with a supercharger. If I could afford it of course I would do both! But the cam route was cheaper and still a lot of power. Just can't beat that idle with the cam...

Start with the basic stuff that can apply to both, then go from there. Headers, exhaust, suspension, etc. Then decide where you want to go from there.
